Concept 4: Slight Alterations
I have altered the body shape slightly too hopefully make
the neck area seem like its merging with the torso more seamlessly. I have also
accessorized him a little with a more elaborate costume, bow tie and monocle.

Five-Man: Concept 4
Following Alan’s feedback last week it was decided that my previous designs are a bit too cartoony. As suggested by Alan, I have looked at the design of the Beast in Disney’s Beauty and the Beast (1991). That design is notable because of the way it realistically incorporates the anatomy of many different animals. I have attempted to reflect that in this design.
In this version I have used a technique to create more realistic fur. I’m not sure if it works better or not.
These are some of the reference images that I used.

The Five Man: Concept 2
I need to somehow find a posture that suites both a snobbish
personality and a struggle with his animal instincts. Although the addition of
ill-fitting clothing helps, I’m not sure that the two aspects come across in
this concept.

Five-Man: Alternate Faces
I have been Experimenting with exaggerating facial features
to try and give more personality to my previous design.

Quick Concept
I have drawn a concept sketch based on one of my silhouettes.
I thought the silhouette suggested a slightly pompous character. I decide that this
trait could be applicable to the ‘Ape-Man/Five
Man’ character from the story. He has a superior attitude because of his five
fingers (he assumes he is more intelligent than the other Beast Folk). I have used
lots of lines and a washed out colour pallet to try and replicate a Victorian pen
and ink drawing.
Ape-Man/Five Man
Silhouette Experiments
I have been trying to create interesting silhouettes using
animal shapes. I’m not really sure about them
for the most part. However, a few seem to have some
personality that could be expanded upon.
